Walt's Swim Lessons

This summer, instead of doing the Emler/AquaTots learn-how-to-swim-all-summer-long route, we decided to do a week's worth of swim lessons with Walt at Ms Erin's Swim School.  Ms. Erin does private group swim lessons out of her house. It's 30-minutes a day for a whole week. After hearing this, I actually thought Walt would retain more of the skills learning this way (especially at this age).

Even still, I was nervous because Walt, while a very athletic and strong kiddo, is not all that confident in the water. Even after years of swim lessons (admittedly, not continuous, which they say is the key), he still prefers to stay on the steps even though he KNOWS how to swim underwater.

So, you can imagine my surprise when I walk in on his last day and he's willingly leaping off the side and swimming to the steps.  See with your own eyes!

Ms Erin was an outstanding coach. She was a great leader who was super encouraging while also challenging the kiddos.   We can't wait to kick off next summer with more lessons! Until then, Walt will happily be diving for rings on his own and swimming like a champ this summer.

PS it's also worth mentioning that even though it is mid-May, these lessons were COLD. Luckily her pool is heated, but this mild spring we're having made for some pretty chilly mornings!

Bruns Family Spring Round Up

Since I got so far behind on the blog, I need to lump a few posts into one. I thought I'd run through some fun things we've been doing this spring.

Group selfie of my sister KK, my mama, Jaelyn and Cassie before we saw Newsies!

Jaeyln had a great time! How can you not? Newsies was outstanding #seizetheday

Mr. Stinks has been taking classes at MyGym since the first of the year. He loves it!

Oscar is a huge ham for the camera.

Speaking of hams, Walt was in a school program. He was part of the choir and got all dressed up.

Walt showing off fruits from our garden! Finally something he'll eat: Strawberries!

Sometimes I surprise myself. This day was one of those days. I bought and planted flowers to liven up our flower beds.

Oh, just your average car ride.

Chaos Soccer - Spring 2015

It's been an awfully rainy season, but the boys have really enjoyed their second season playing soccer.  I realize they are all only 4 years old, but the improvement from the fall to the spring has been tremendous! We owe a lot of this to our fantastic coach, Coach Tony. He is very encouraging, but at the same time is trying to teach the boys a thing or two about soccer. I am not a big fan of the "everyone wins and does a great job" strategy. Sometimes you don't do a good job, but those are the teaching moments!  But seriously, they are four years old. We treat them like four year olds.

There is no real score keeping, but it's apparent the teams that are more evenly matched. We had our fair share of ruanway games... both from the winning and losing side. The boys are getting a lot better at passing it to each other and the pack around the ball isn't quite so tight :)

A little team cheer to get them hyped.

Colton, Chase, and Beckam all ready to play ball

Austin (#4) and Chase are true hustlers on the team

Look at the power behind this kick!

My little left-footed kicker. Walt's best skill is the corner kick.

The coach's son: Ryne. This kid is a natural-born athlete!

Here's the crazy crew. Aren't they adorable?
Chris and I have no expertise in soccer, but have really grown to love watching and learning the game. It's extremely fast paced (think: basketball or hockey) and there are lots of cool skill (running, kicking, dodging). On to the next season!
